Hracs is new developmental coach for Wahoos

The Wilton Wahoos swim club has a new head developmental coach.

Caitlyn Hracs, a former head coach at the Westport Weston Family YMCA, was recently hired to join the training staff for the Wahoos at the Wilton Family YMCA. Hracs led the Westport Weston Elite 8U swim team to victory at the New England Y Championships last winter.

“We are thrilled that Coach Caitlyn is joining the Wahoos. The enjoyment she has working with younger swimmers is very evident,” said Alex Baxter, the associate director of competitive aquatics and head age group coach for the Wahoos. “Her squads will be both fun and educational, which will make for a very welcoming environment for our newest and youngest Wahoo swimmers.”

“YMCA competitive swimming is the natural progression from our safety around water and Y swim lessons,” said, Robert McDowell, the CEO of the Riverbrook Regional YMCA. “It provides an ideal environment for cognitive, physical and social-emotional development.

“By strengthening our leadership staff, with people like Caitlyn, we know our swimmers will experience achievement,” added McDowell. “As a parent of a competitive swimmer, I can tell you first hand, your child will know they have a place to belong to and feel proud of, all while building relationships that last a lifetime.”

Sometimes referred to as America’s Swim Instructor, the YMCA program annually teaches more than a million children and teenagers how to swim. For those who want to take their swimming to a higher level, the Wilton Family YMCA, a branch of the Riverbrook Regional YMCA, offers the Wahoos competitive team.

That’s where Hracs gets involved, helping children transition to competitive swimming.

Competitive swim programs at the Wilton Family YMCA are year round for swimmers ages six to 18 and include USA Swimming and YMCA Swimming short course and long course events. Each year, the Wahoos program competes in national events such as the YMCA Short Course National Championship and the YMCA Long Course National Championship.
