Two Wilton seniors named Merit finalists

Wilton High School seniors Mia Ruefenacht and Michael Wallace have been named two of more than 15,000 finalists in the 2018 National Merit Scholarship Program.

Mia and Michael took the fall 2016 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test as juniors and were named semifinalists in September.

They achieved finalist status after submitting detailed scholarship applications that included:

  • Evidence of an academic record of very high performance;
  • Endorsement by the school principal;
  • SAT scores that confirm the student’s earlier qualifying test performance;
  • Self-descriptive essays;
  • Evidence of the student’s participation and leadership in school and community activities.

Mia, Michael and the other finalists are now eligible for National Merit Scholarship recognition, which will be awarded this spring.
